Thoughts probably no one is interested in, but I need to vent into the void of tumblr:
I am still pretty annoyed that in recent comics issues we got to see absolutely zero reaction from Rogue both during Magneto’s death and his return. Even the smallest panel for any of the events would have been sufficient.
Not to mention she was practically nonexistent in the whole Krakoa run (with both Mystique and Destiny being right. there).
It’s like she’s being held hostage in that marriage, locked away from any character development. She’s not allowed to even spare a look at anything and anyone (not even her family!!!!) without Gambit breathing down her neck.
That marriage was a mistake. There, I said it. It boxes both Rogue and Gambit into such nothing characters that aren’t allowed to have meaningful connections with anyone else.

The Topic of Romy
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t really like the romy ship, for either Rogue or Gambit. It feels like both characters get the short end of the stick somehow.
Rogue is allowed to be a character but only because shes with Gambit, and that’s the only time anyone will pay attention to her, if she’s with/pinning over Gambit. Her entire character in recent years has just revolved around Gambit and if she isn’t with him, she’s a whore apparently.
And Gambit isn’t really that much better off. He’s been written as the “Dumb wife guy” since they got married it feels like and he hasn’t really been allowed to be competent (because if he’s competent then they can’t write badass Rogue) or an actually cool guy who’s been an expert thief his entire life.
Idk, it just kinda sucks with what is being done with, or lack of, the characters. Like if they divorce, that would probably be the most interesting thing that’s happened to either of them in over a decade.
And the Romy fandom doesn’t really help the ship’s case either. Most of what I’ve seen of them is “punching down”(used lightly) at other ships involving the characters (rogueneto most recently) and claim some sort of moral superiority because of a perceived fault with the other ship. Or they claim that creators won’t let them have anything because they’re… not immediately getting married in media outside of the comics?
It just feels hollow and a very large/loud part of the fandom behaves like spoiled children who can’t figure out how storytelling works.

From some of the discussion I've been seeing regarding Sparrow's decision in the last episode vs Lark's decision to release the doodler- I think people are giving Lark a little bit *too much* leniency based on the rogue card? Like don't get me wrong, Lark was a kid and Willy played a big hand in manipulating him into doing what he did, but the rogue card itself did not *force* Lark to stab his dad. It instilled a hostility within him towards his father (one which admittedly I think would have come to be either way if less strongly but that's another post), sure, but releasing the doodler was still very much a premeditated decision on Lark's end, albeit one swayed by his magically-enforced hatred of his dad. I don't blame Lark for the whole ordeal I'm just saying I don't think it's fair to just write it off as some kind of rogue-induced hypnosis, when Lark did very much still have agency in the matter.

No….
No, disobeying international law out of SPITE is not brave!
No, it’s just stupid!
It’s seldom necessary to do so, and any time it may be, that’s only in extremis!
No I will not “debate” you. You’ll just use that pretense to yell at me. Again!
I have SPOKEN!

There's some distinct periods in batman comics history. First, there were his 10-20 comics before robin. These comics were dark stories where batman killed just as much as his enemies did. He was violent and dark and the stories were just bad hardboiled detective fiction. The fact that so many writers seem to like this era of one year says something to me, but it isn't positive.
Then there was the era of peak batman. Which was the batman and robin years. The era from 1940 to around 1968 or 1969. In that 30 year period lies most of batman's best material. Shockingly, i think having robin (and eventually alfred) there went a long way towards making things more funny and lighthearted. So the golden age and silver age was the peak era for batman. It was the era of the grey and blue costume with eyebrows. Of batman's fun side being embraced by actors like Adam West.
And then with 1970 we go back to the worst material ever. Denny O'Neil and the other writers keep trying to shove batman back into his pulpy roots, by ditching robin, darkening the costume, making him more edgy and dark, etc. The best thing about these years is the fact that we at least get some cool stuff for villians. Man-Bat is introduced, The Joker got an 8-9 issue solo comic, etc. But in terms of batman himself: well, i think the 70s and 80s is the era where his villians definitely begin showing more personality to me. He actually becomes so dark and boring that i'm just waiting for his villains to show up. And that's probably not a good thing.
